Florida homeschool annual evaluation: two online options
Every family registered as a home education program completes an annual evaluation. ClearPath offers two ways to do it, both fully online and both by a Florida-certified teacher.
FS 1002.41
What the law requires
Florida Statute 1002.41 requires an annual educational evaluation documenting the student’s demonstration of educational progress at a level commensurate with her or his ability. The parent files the evaluation with the district school superintendent.
The standard is progress commensurate with your child’s own ability, not a grade-level benchmark.
The statute allows five methods:
- A Florida-certified teacher evaluates the portfolio and holds a discussion with the student: ClearPath offers this
- The student takes a nationally normed student achievement test administered by a Florida-certified teacher: ClearPath offers this
- The student takes a state student assessment test used by the district, administered at a location and by a certified teacher designated by the superintendent
- The student is evaluated by an individual holding a valid, active license under s. 490.003(7) or (8)
- The student is evaluated with any other valid measurement tool mutually agreed upon by the district school superintendent and the parent
Both fully online
Your two options with ClearPath
Annual Portfolio Evaluation
$65Upload your child’s work samples, reading list and activity log through the online form. Your child answers three short questions in writing, and I read and respond to each one as part of the evaluation.
- No test at all, nothing for your child to score on
- A Florida-certified teacher reads every sample you send
- Not sure what to gather? Read the complete guide
- Live results review included if you want to talk it through
- Signed letter within 1–3 business days
Best for families whose child does not test well under pressure, or who would rather show the year through actual work.
Start your portfolio evaluation →After you submit you’ll see both payment options: reserve in the EMA Marketplace, or pay by card.
Renaissance Star – Live Teacher-Proctored
$150A Florida-certified teacher administers and monitors both Star Reading and Star Math in a single session, giving you objective data on where your child stands.
- National percentile, stanine and skill cluster analysis
- A reading level you can use to pick books
- Live results review included
- Score report on completion; ClearPath summary within 1–3 business days
Best for families who want objective data on where their child stands in reading and math. If testing is stressful for your child, the portfolio option may be the better fit.
Only live teacher-proctored testing satisfies the annual evaluation requirement. The statute requires the test be administered by a Florida-certified teacher, so parent-administered testing does not qualify for home education families.
