Florida Law Requirement: FL Statute 1002.41(1)(f)1 requires portfolio evaluation “upon review of the portfolio and discussion with the student.” Your child answers 4 questions through the form. I review and respond to each answer as part of the evaluation. Younger students can dictate to a parent. Non-verbal students may respond through pictures, drawings, or parent-described responses.
Does This Satisfy Florida's Annual Evaluation Requirement?
Yes — completely and legally.
Florida Statute 1002.41(1)(f)1 requires that homeschool families who choose the portfolio option have their portfolio evaluated by a Florida-certified teacher. You can read the full statute at the Florida Senate website → The law specifically states the evaluation must occur “upon review of the portfolio and discussion with the student.”
ClearPath Homeschool Testing satisfies both requirements:
✅ Portfolio Review
A Florida DOE certified teacher personally reviews every work sample, reading list, and activity log you submit. Your evaluation letter reflects a genuine review of your child's actual work.
✅ Student Discussion
Your child answers 4 questions through the form. I review and respond to each answer as part of the evaluation. This allows students to participate in the discussion portion of the evaluation through an online format without requiring a scheduled live meeting. Younger students can dictate to a parent. Non-verbal students may respond through pictures, drawings, or parent-described responses.
Who can evaluate? Florida law requires evaluation by a Florida-certified teacher. ClearPath Homeschool Testing is operated by a Florida DOE certified teacher and Step Up For Students approved provider. Your evaluation letter is signed and issued under a valid Florida educator certificate.
After your evaluation is complete you will receive an official signed letter confirming that your child's portfolio demonstrates educational progress consistent with the student's abilities. This letter satisfies the annual evaluation requirement under FS 1002.41 and can be kept in your homeschool records.
What about Step Up For Students families? If your child is on a FES-UA scholarship, the portfolio evaluation also satisfies the annual evaluation requirement for your scholarship renewal. You do not need a separate standardized test if you choose the portfolio option. Not sure which option is right for your family? Visit our Step Up families page →

Activity Log
A simple record of what your child did this year. Don’t overthink it! Examples of what parents submit:
- Weekly planner with notes like “Week 1: Math pg 12-15, Reading – Chapter 3, Science experiment”
- Monthly calendar with subjects marked each day
- Simple typed list: “September: Addition/subtraction, Charlotte’s Web, Life cycles”
- Curriculum tracker showing lessons completed
- Photos of your planning notebook or homeschool journal
