Homeschool Progress Monitoring

Know whether it is working, while there is still time to adjust

Testing once a year tells you how the year went. Testing three times tells you what to do about it. Renaissance Star, fall, winter and spring.

Why three times

One test is a snapshot, three is a story

An annual test tells you where your child landed. It cannot tell you whether the curriculum you chose in August was working by October, or whether the reading program you added in January made any difference.

Three assessments across the year give you a baseline, a mid-year check, and a final measure. You see the direction of travel, not just the destination, and you still have time to change something if the middle number is not moving.

Each session covers both Star Reading and Star Math and takes about 45 minutes.

1

August to September

Beginning of year baseline

Find out where your child is starting. Catch gaps from last year before you are deep into this year’s curriculum, and aim your instruction where it matters.

2

December to January

Mid-year check-in

Is what you are doing working? Compare against the baseline and see whether your child is on pace, while there is still half a year left to adjust.

3

April to May

End of year assessment

Measure the full year in one session. This one also satisfies the PEP annual testing requirement, so monitoring and compliance happen together.
